The Nine Clinic

Investigations guided by your GP

Private blood tests and diagnostic referrals

The Nine Clinic offers private blood testing with GP guidance, from choosing appropriate investigations to reviewing your results. Blood samples are collected in clinic and sent to a laboratory for analysis. When imaging is appropriate, your GP can arrange a referral to a partner diagnostic centre.

A useful investigation starts with a clear question. Contact our team to discuss your symptoms or an existing test request, confirm the expected cost and arrange the next step.

Choosing the right tests

Your medical history, symptoms, medicines and previous results help your doctor decide which tests are appropriate. Not every concern needs a blood test, and ordering more tests does not necessarily provide a clearer answer.

If another clinician has recommended tests, contact the team before booking. Explain what has been requested so the clinic can confirm whether it can arrange those tests and whether a GP consultation is required.

A GP consultation is usually the starting point when a test is being considered for a new concern. Your doctor can explain why a test may be useful and discuss its limitations.

How your blood-test appointment works

  1. Discuss the reason for testing. Tell the team about your concern or share an existing test request. A GP consultation is usually the starting point for a new concern.
  2. Confirm the tests and costs. Your clinician advises which investigations are appropriate. Ask what collection, laboratory analysis and any consultation or follow-up will cost.
  3. Prepare and attend. Follow the instructions for your particular tests. Blood is collected in clinic and sent to a laboratory for analysis.
  4. Review the results. Confirm how and when you will hear from the clinic. Your GP considers the findings alongside your symptoms and history and advises on any next steps.

Blood collection and laboratory fees

The published blood-collection fee is £50. Laboratory test charges are additional and depend on the investigations requested. A GP consultation and any other services may also carry separate fees.

Ask for an estimate covering the proposed tests, collection and any consultation or follow-up before proceeding. The team can explain the booking arrangements and which charges apply to your situation.

Preparing for your appointment

Preparation depends on the tests. Ask the team whether you need to fast or follow any other instructions, and tell them about medicines you take. Do not stop prescribed medication unless your clinician specifically advises you to do so.

Bring the test request, where relevant, and any previous results that may help your doctor interpret a change. Let the team know if you have previously felt faint during blood collection or have another concern about the procedure.

Results and follow-up

The clinic's published guidance indicates that many standard blood-test results are available within one to three working days, although some take longer. Confirm the expected turnaround for your specific tests; it is not a guaranteed deadline.

Your doctor will review the results and advise on the next steps. A result outside the reference range does not by itself establish a diagnosis, and a result within range does not rule out every cause of symptoms. Results need to be considered alongside your history and assessment.

Before you leave, confirm how results will be shared and what to do if you have not heard within the expected time. Further testing, a consultation or specialist referral may be recommended where appropriate.

Referrals for scans

If your GP considers imaging appropriate, the clinic can help arrange a referral to a diagnostic provider. Scans are carried out at partner diagnostic centres rather than in our GP consultation rooms. Availability, preparation and fees depend on the investigation and provider.

Discuss what the scan is intended to investigate and how the report will be reviewed. A blood-test booking does not include a scan automatically.

Blood tests, scans and health screening

Blood tests analyse a sample in a laboratory. Scans produce images and require a separate appointment with a diagnostic provider. Your GP can advise which investigation is appropriate; they are not interchangeable, and neither is automatically included with the other.

If you are looking for a broader review of your health rather than an investigation for a specific concern, explore our health screening service. For a new symptom or an existing test request, a private GP consultation can help establish the next step.

Questions about blood tests

Can I choose my own tests?

Discuss your concerns or an existing test request with the team. Your clinician can advise which investigations are appropriate and whether a consultation is needed.

Do all blood tests require fasting?

No. Preparation varies. Follow the instructions for the tests you are having rather than fasting automatically.

Are results guaranteed the next day?

No. Turnaround depends on the test and laboratory. Ask for the expected timing for your request.

Does the £50 fee include laboratory analysis?

No. It is the published collection fee; test charges are additional.

Can a blood test tell me that everything is healthy?

No single test or panel rules out every condition. Discuss symptoms and concerns with your GP even if a previous result was normal.

Are scans carried out at the clinic?

No. Your GP can arrange a referral to a partner diagnostic centre when imaging is appropriate. The provider confirms availability, preparation and fees; a blood-test appointment does not include imaging.
